Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2 beckons gamers back to the realm of Gameindustri, for a sequel adventure of dungeon exploration, monster battle, and social-sim role-playing. Through turn-based triumph and numerous dialog tree choices, players proceed through a branching storyline to one of multiple conclusions, based on the balance of power among the realm's console-centric factions, as well as their own plot-point decisions. The sequel's battle system adds customization and more direct character control. Dungeons are broken into smaller sections, with no random encounters. Set in the year "20XX," the game's story runs with self-referential humor and inside jokes. The realm is divided into stylistically distinct land masses, governed by representative goddesses. These goddesses have been imprisoned, and must be rescued by their younger sisters. As main characters in the original were based on consoles, the sequel story's heroes are inspired by handhelds. Younger sister to the first game's Neptune, mk2's protagonist Nepgear represents Game Gear. Uni is recognizable as the PlayStation Portable, while "White Sisters" Ram and Rom share similarities with the dual-screen Nintendo DS. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide
