Product Notes

Emerging out of Londonderry, NH, this eclectic trio has only just begun making waves in the New England indie music scene. Acoustic Theory's unique sound brings a mix of folk and rock with heavy emphasis on percussion and harmony. Their music can best be described as a fusion between bands such as Dispatch and Guster, with a hint of Crosby, Stills, & Nash. The group came together in the fall of 2006 when bassist Mike Anderson teamed up with Derek Carmody and Jake Chagnon, who had been playing open mics since Jake was 10 years old. The 3 immediately clicked musically and made plans to record their first album. Having 3 songwriters in the band made the songwriting process easy for the young trio and they entered the studio with an abundance of diverse music. Acoustic Theory's King of the Mountain EP displays the band's ability to write a wide variety of songs both musically and lyrically. From breakup songs such as "Downstream" to the cynical humor of "Mr. Uncomfortable", Acoustic Theory never commits to one specific style or genre of music. They even manage to poke fun at the seriousness of love songs in their "Non Ballad", although they do come equipped with a ballad or two in their repertoire. Vocally, the members of Acoustic Theory pride themselves on creating the tightest of three-part harmonies. Instrumentally, guitarist Derek Carmody's rhythmic style is well complimented by the intuitive bass lines of Mike "Pinky" Anderson. The best examples of this can be heard in the instrumental breakdowns of "Down to Zero" and "Things I Haven't Done". Add to that the charismatic hand percussion of Jake Chagnon, and you have the makings of a progressive folk/rock trio worth listening to...
