Born in the West Indies, the influence of African Heritage and Rastafarian traditions gave birth to the name Ano Okera, a singer that dares to explore contemporary music's eclectic side. Growing up in Jamaica, I knew at an early age that I was destined to be a performer. I did everything in my power to fulfill that dream and focused on honing my abilities so that I could be a singer, actor and dancer that inspires. Sharing my talent, as I like to put it - is my purpose. After visiting New York one summer, I was captivated by it's charm. My soul instantly craved to be a part of this beautiful melting pot of culture and diverse opportunity, so I immediately made it my new home. While in New York, I happened upon a successful modeling career then transitioned to theatre. While modeling and theatre have been amazing experiences, my passion is music; hence the desire to pursue my recording career. Migrating to the states was the most essential ingredient in my musical development. It stimulated a deeper awareness and shaped the perspective of my new style. In an endeavor to integrate Jamaican music with all the different cultures that have influenced me in New York City, I have adopted a style that I call Ja'Merican music. It is a musical consciousness that has inspired me to create an approach that is innovative and uniquely me. My sound is the marriage of contemporary music with explosive lyrics, blazing rock guitars and soulful rhythms that make you just want to move. My music is the cultivation of a diverse palate that took it's roots from legends like Bob Marley, Ernie Hudson and Jimmy Cliff. As I continued to explore music my experiences made me develop a more global musical appreciation, exposing me to iconic greats like Michael Jackson, James Brown, Babyface, Bono, Prince, Jeff Buckley, Seal, Sting, George Michael, Kenny Lattimore and Lenny Kravitz. Blending the essence of these musical innovators, have allowed me to create a sound that is undeniably Ano Okera. My inspirations have allowed me to channel the joys, heartbreaks and influences along my journey through my debut album GROOVE. GROOVE is an eclectic exploration of soul, rock and reggae. Textured with personal experiences, it is a relatable soundtrack of songs that personifies my core essence and epitomizes my new Ja'Merican style.
