Saxophonist, arranger, and composer Arun Luthra first established himself as a young musician of promise through his private studies in Boston with Jay Brandford (now a New York-based saxophonist whose credits include the Smithsonian Jazz Orchestra, the Vanguard Orchestra, and the Bobby Short Orchestra) and subsequently in his studies with the internationally renowned saxophonist Mike McMullen in Sacramento, California. In Sacramento, Arun Luthra gained extensive experience as a member of Fantasia Records recording artist Early Times' touring group in tours of the West Coast, including performances in San Francisco, Portland, Olympia, Seattle, and Sacramento. Arun Luthra completed his B.F.A. in jazz and contemporary music in 1996 in New York after extensive studies with such major artistic and educational figures as Reggie Workman, JoAnne Brackeen, Joe Chambers, Lee Konitz, Armen Donelian, Rory Stuart, Jimmy Owens, Vincent Herring, Tim Berne, Billy Harper, George Garzone, John Stubblefield, Andy McKee, Bernard Purdie, Loren Schoenberg, Charli Persip, and Maria Schneider.
