Product Notes

It was 2004, he was 18 and the bands in which Andy Mort had previous drummed and fronted were fading into a world of suited ambitions becoming thinly spread across the UK. Decisions had to be made, so he spent seven months in his bedroom with a computer, a drum machine and the pursuit of an idea. It evolved from blob of goop, to an EP, and eventually a fourteen track album called The Final Scene. He wrote, recorded and produced everything himself. He dreamt of a world at night, overlooking the lighted Birmingham cityscape from a warm car where the dials on the dashboard were glowing as he moved along the M6 in slow motion; the soundtrack to a feeling of contentedness as you realise you are genuinely feeling pretty good today. One thousand copies were pressed, it was distributed digitally, and Andy moved away to Southampton to study further. He found a new band mate in the form of a pedal that could create choirs, beats and the soundscapes that he wanted to capture as he graced the stage in solitude. This has gone with him all over the UK as has played many shows with many artists including Son of Dave, The Enemy, Olivia Broadfield, Nathan Johnson, Youth Movies, Inspiral Carpets frontman Tom Hingley, and has collaborated with Camp America on his latest EP alongside Joel Pott from Athlete. He makes an extraordinary sound, using his loop pedal in a unique way, producing intense atmospheres and the haunting melodies that have left audiences silenced and amazed. He owns the stage with his music, contrasted between songs with a humble and unassuming timidity that makes the show all the more poignant to witness as he builds up vulnerable loops that somehow come together in a beautiful way. Since 2006 Andy has been back in the bedroom and moving between kitchens with his laptop as the work in (slow) progress that will be the next album takes shape. After graduating he has been working in a bookshop to fund life, looking to get all the album demos finished in February 2009. Calling it 'Behind Closed Doors', the first four tracks that have been put out are much more edgy and driven than previous offerings. There is a cameo appearance from Ronald Reagan, speaking his stirring, haunting and somewhat alarming words in front of the Berlin Wall during the second track 'Hold On' in a story of tribalism and gang-identification driven by the fear of uniting with 'the other'; those strangers locked out of the world in which we live. As a writer and poet Andy is producing a collection of work including a novel, which has inspired and been inspired by the music.
