Product Notes

Billy Ray has spent a good part of his life teaching folks about Gram Parsons life, especially Gram's childhood. Both Billy Ray and Gram were born and raised in Waycross, Ga.. Gram was born in 1946 and Billy Ray in 1952. Gram left Waycross in January 1959 after his father, Coon Dog Conner committed suicide on December 23, 1958. Billy Ray has spent his entire life in Waycross except for time in college and the military. He began playing guitar in 1964 at the age of 11 after seeing the Beatles first Ed Sullivan performance on TV. In High School he played in local bands and began writing songs. After Gram's death in 1973, Billy Ray began to pay tribute to him and teach folks about Gram's importance and influence in music. Throughout the years Billy Ray has helped writers with the research of their biographys on Gram which includes Ben Fong Torres 'Hickory Wind' 'The Life And Time Of Gram Parsons', Jason Walker 'Gods Own Singer', David Meyer 'Twenty Thousand Roads' and Bob Kealing 'Calling Me Home'. Billy Ray also Helped film director Gandulf Hennig and he appears in the BBC documentary 'Gram Parsons Fallen Angel'. In 1998 Billy Ray Nominated Gram for induction in The Georgia Music Hall Of Fame and in 1999 Gram was inducted. As a songwriter Billy Ray has had songs published with Lowery Music Co. in Atlanta and Sony Music in Nashville. Billy Ray owns 'Hickory Wind Music' a musical instrument retail store and recording studio in Waycross. Billy Ray has recently re-released his 'Down On Cypress Creek' CD, which is a collection of songs he recorded in the past few years in Nashville and Waycross. The following are reviews of Billy Ray's CD: 'Billy Ray Herrin, out of Waycross, Georgia, is a passionate carrier of the torch of Gram Parsons, a country-rock pioneer and a fellow Waycross native. His devotion to Parsons is evident, in words and music, throughout 'Down On Cypress Creek', but, nowhere is it more crystal-clear than in 'Time Will Hold The Memories'. As long as musicians like Herrin holds them, Parsons legacy is in good hands'.-BEN FONG TORRES 'Billy Ray is equal parts Tennessee Williams and Willie Nelson, cut from the stuff of the mythic Deep South. Where the tall pines meet the Okefenokee in Waycross, Georgia is where he's from and his easy-going voice and tale-weaving tunes carry it to the world on this fine new CD. It's like sippin' sweet tea on the front porch, late on a warm summer afternoon when that warm, thick breeze sneaks in off the swamp. The great Waycross tradition lives on in Billy Ray'.-WALTER EGAN.
