Ruthless Workings of Nature[CD]
Here's the background ... Bandleader Andy Cauble formed Black Lagoon way back in 2001. After finding Leahanne Woods-Smith, the vocalist he had been searching for for years, the band won Creative Loafing's 'Best New Band' award in 2001. The band promptly recorded their debut 'Laguna Negra' and went on to receive numerous accolades, as well as perform all over the Southeast. By 2004 the band had endured some personnel changes but still managed a headlining set, playing to over 1000 people at Carnevil 2004 (the big, nationally known, Halloween party modeled after Burning Man). But this lineup, was not meant to be. After an extended period of re-grouping the band began doing shows again in 2007, original drummer Thomas Whitley back in the fold and Cauble's brother -in-law Asher Griffis on bass. I joined the band as guitarist/ backup vocalist and a new batch of songs was begun. This batch of music became 'The Ruthless Workings of Nature' and the band will now finally release it's second CD to loyal fans who have been waiting a long, long time. I won't bother you with describing the music, that's your field, but I should tell you this is no typical record. This record was made using a Mac, but many cheap computer manipulations were avoided to get a more real and organic sound. Many of the vocals are actually 'scratch vocals' (vocals done live with the band, usually replaced with overdubs later), the band actually played together (not one at a time), the drums were honestly played (not all digitally lined up using a computer - quantizing), the performances are a little raw and very human ... this is the real sound of a real rock band, no BS! You may have heard all the hoopla about Metallica's new record being too loud and too thin, but not us! This record has dynamics and the volume breathes with life, much like a classic rock record ... so please, turn it up! 'The Ruthless Workings of Nature' will be released on October 31st, 2008 at (where else but) Carnevil 2008. Black Lagoon will appear on WEND 106.5 on Sunday the 19th for an on-air interview. Also, two songs from Laguna Negra can now be heard in the in the indie vampire film, Southern Gothic.
