Product Notes

Bob Perry's music career can be likened to the shape of an hourglass;broad to intricate, topical to specific; collective to individual. From being the guitarist and one of the principal songwriters for the internationally acclaimed band Winter Hours (1984-1991), to leading thegroup tabulaRASA, to fronting, writing and singing his own material, to putting out a record on the cooperative label, Cropduster Records, BobPerry's focus has turned inward. Before signing with Chrysalis Records, Winter Hours recorded several albums for the independent label Link Records. Link kept the band on the road for several years with the philosophy that retracing thecollege and club circuits would eventually lead to name recognition.Winter Hours ultimately developed a strong presence on college radio after opening for contemporary bands such as the Bongos, The Godfathers, Let's Active, the Hoodoo Gurus and Marshall Crenshaw. But it was an MTV video and a release in Spain that lead to a European tour that caught the attention of Chrysalis Records. With a Lenny Kaye produced album, Bob and band hit the road - this time giving up the van for a Winnebago. After the demise of Winter Hours, Bob formed the band tabulaRASA with friends Sean Seymour, Alan Katz and Chris Flynn. 1995 saw the release of the 'Somewhere Out There' CD. tabulaRASA received a nod of approval from Vin Scelsa on his acclaimed 'Idiot's Delight' program, showcased at the SXSW & NXNE festivals and played to capacity crowds thoughout the Northeast. In 1996 Bob took a break from the music scene to earn a degree in computer network engineering. In between studying, he began writing and recording songs for his new record, 'Light Fuse,Run Away'. 'Not having a deadline gave me the freedom to concentrate on the songs and craft the parts. I recorded a lot of the parts at home and the relaxed atmosphere gave the songs a better vibe', says Bob. On 'Light Fuse, Run Away', Bob Perry recorded with friends Stan Demeski (Luna & the Feelies), Justin Harwood (Luna), James Mastro (The Health &Happiness Show) and John Ginty (Jewel). The record recalls the musings of early R.E.M. and Wilco with the atmospherics of Mercury Rev. The lineup for the live shows is comprised of ex-tabulaRASA members Sean, Alan and Chris. With the 'Light Fuse,Run Away' a work of his own, Bob Perry decided to take his DIY idea all the way by starting his own record company, Cropduster, with Sean, Alan and Chris. 'Getting a record deal is like buying a lottery ticket. Even if you get signed, having success is one in a million. I figure by sharing the label all of us can combine our strengths and help each other get our records heard'.
