'Marimba Madness' is a compilation CD featuring 8 marimba bands: Basa Basa, Bongozozo, Born On Tuesday, Chiremba, Eurimba, The Flying Safari Ants, White Rhino and Zimba, with special guest Nabi Camara. Marimba bands are seven- to nine-person ensembles of musicians playing African and Caribbean music on large wooden xylophones. The music on this CD is equal parts familiar classics such as La Bamba, Wimoweh and Jamaican Farewell, and traditional African music from Zimbabwe, South Africa, Ghana and Guinea. Nabi Camara is a griot from Guinea who has played the balafon and djembe since age three. He has performed with Les Merveilles de Guinee, Bala et ses Baladins, Les Ballets Africains de Guinee, Mande Yagha and Fatala. Since then, Nabi has travelled the world performing the sweet melodies of the Mandingo people and sharing his rich culture. Kite Giedraitis has been playing african marimba since 1987 and teaching since 1989. All these bands (and several others) arose from his marimba classes. He made this CD to record his arrangements of traditional and popular songs.
