Product Notes

Brandon Carter was born and raised on Chicago's South Side. It was tough for Brandon growing up in the inner-city. His neighborhood was filled with gangs, drugs, and often the scene of murders. Brandon attended public schools where fights were a daily occurrence and more than once, Brandon saw teachers beaten up by students right in front of his eyes. Brandon became a product of this environment; he frequently ran with local gangs and was involved in petty crime. Brandon's parents were afraid that South Side streets were get the best of him, so during high school, Brandon's parents opted to send him to Military School. The Military School Brandon attended was an extremely strict environment, similar to a juvenile delinquents center. He was told when to eat, sleep, and what to do 24 hours a day. Brandon had to live at the Military school and was only allowed to go back to his beloved "South Side" one weekend a month. No family members or friends were allowed to visit Brandon at school. There was no Television, no decent food, no girls, and no weed to smoke. The only thing that Brandon had to ease the unyielding agony of this hellish and depressing situation was MUSIC. Brandon could only seek refuge in music because his radio was the only personal item he was allowed to keep at school. He started to play drums in his down time. Which would become extremely useful to him in years to come. Had it not been for music as a release for him at school, Brandon would have surely found himself using his boxed up energy towards something negative. It became apparent to Brandon that Military school may have also saved his life because many of the friends that Brandon had prior to Military school are now dead, in jail and/or straight up losers. After graduating, Brandon attended Howard university in Washington DC. After a short time at Howard, he realized that he was going to seriously pursue a career in music full time. He got together with a local producer / DJ who went by the name of DJ politician and local super star rapper Malik-16 and formed the group BASSLINE. BASSLINE performed at local clubs and events all over DC, Maryland and Virginia. They also opened up for some major label artist such as T.I., FABOLOUS, NORE, LL Cool J and others. BASSLINE's success was short lived and the group broke up due to lack of focus, jealousy and conduct unbecoming of real niggas. Malik-16 and Brandon continued to help each other with there solo endeavors. Brandon's solo carrier began to take off and he decided to drop out of school and focus on his dreams. This decision led down a path to a series of unfortunate events and circumstances. Brandon was left homeless, living out of his car and having to go days at a time with almost nothing to eat. Luckily a local rapper/hustler (whom Brandon beat in a Freestyle battle and later became friends with) gave Brandon a large sum of "PRODUCT" on consignment for Brandon to distribute throughout the community. This allowed Brandon to hustle up enough money to stop living in his car, get himself an apartment and record an official demo. The Demo landed in the hands of a record executive at SONY Records. The executive was so impressed with what he heard that he invited Brandon to NYC to record songs with some of their producers. The music came out amazing and a deal was in the works with Brandon and SONY. Unfortunately the deal dropped when SONY Records merged with BMG and the people who were pushing Brandon were fired. After that, Brandon was picked up by independent labels in Atlanta and in his hometown of Chicago. But unfortunately both deals were later dropped. During this time Brandon learned to play piano, combined that with his ability to play drums and started producing his own tracks. Brandon Carter is the type of person who will never give up for any reason. Brandon packed up everything he owned and moved to New York to pursue his dreams. It was not long before Brandon was scouted on the street by a New York modeling agency. Soon after, Brandon booked a nation-wide ad campaign with the urban clothing line AKADEMIKS along with R&B singer Kiesha Cole. This was the first time in Brandon's life were he was able to make significant amounts of money without using a digital scale and small plastic bags. Around the same time Brandon recorded a new demo (over instrumentals that he produced) and wrote a business plan for his label HIGH LIFE ENTERTAINMENT. The plan and demo was presented to his friend, John Bratton, a real-estate tycoon who built his empire in Washington DC. Bratton was extremely impressed with Brandon's business plan, demo and the fact that he saw his face on busses and at bus stops didn't hurt either. Bratton decided to invest a large sum on money in Brandon's record label, and HIGH LIFE ENTERTAINMENT was born. HIGH LIFE's first release is Brandon Carter's debut album "South Side Bravado". The CD was produced; in it's entirety, by Brandon Carter. The feeling of that CD is a mix of Hip-Hop, ROCK, and R&B. It's a sound that the world has never heard before.
