Digital Analog Heart & Soul[CD]
Rock & Roll drama, painstakingly crafted pop, all of it channeled through an ethereal pulse of dance beats and relentless grooves. The textures - waves of guitars, synths, horns, flutes - are deep enough to drown in, but they fly, guided by euphoric melodies that rocket the music into the stratosphere. Digital Analog Heart and Soul is the first release of multi-instrumentalist/producer Carbonlifer. As the title suggests, this is a convergence, a brash melding of rock and pop, electronic and acoustic, digital and analog. Composed and recorded almost entirely alone, in the studio, the album is a spectacular display of catharsis, songwriting, and raw virtuosity. At times reminiscent of the deliberate pop of U2 or Coldplay, Carbonlifer injects his songs with a ferocious energy. And the voice... impossibly clear and pure, it soars atop the lush orchestrations. Jeff Buckley would smile. This is not music for sitting - this is powerful, seat of the pants, throw your arms up and look to the sky exhilaration. Carbonlifer is floating just above us, hand-extended, a one-way invitation into the ether. His appeal -- 'Pull me away baby, pull me away'.
