Roar of the Approaching Night[CD]
'As I began to write a lot songs in my early twenties, ' explains Chris, 'I realized that most everything, and every feeling, had been written in every musical genre that I was exposed to as a young songwriter. I soon came to realize that the only unique perspective that I could have on the subjects that I wanted to write about would be my own experiences; my own feelings; my own perspective; my own journey. With this newfound insight, I began the challenging process of chronicling my life in song; with each new set of words and music becoming a chapter in the 'autobiography' of my life.' This record, 'The Roar Of The Approaching Night' continues the journey that began with Chris' debut record, 'Life Away' (1984/White Crow Records) which shared his own perspective of 'life on my own' as a young man first away from his father's house. 'The Roar Of The Approaching Night' is a record that documents and exposes his heart's collapse and his mind's slow acceptance of love's breakdown and marriage's failure which culminates with the great senses of loss that is felt through separation and divorce. But through the end of the 'song cycle' he see hope. 'I always see hope in the 'kinder road waiting...the great open sky' explains Chris, 'that holds the rainbows of love that many others like me continue to chase even though we run for them with bruised hearts and bloodied and wounded spirits.' This record has been called 'a classic collection of honest, thought provoking songs' in the tradition of Hall of Fame songwriters Bob Dylan, Jackson Browne and Bruce Springsteen. From the questioning doubts or 'Weight of My World' to the hopeful longing of 'Far Away From You;' from the helplessness of 'All I Can Do' to the inward strength of 'Don't Look Back,' Chris' new record will touch the heart and speak the voice for all who have shared in this journey of love had and love lost.
