Chris Nunez, a Colombian-American singer/songwriter/rocker from West Orange, New Jersey, is set to explode onto the music scene with his debut EP, Gasoline Dream. Nunez is a mature, powerful, and inspiring musician, who proves that music can be a force for change in society, and it can rock while doing so. His music is both an art form as well as a platform for the expression of his views on society, religion, oppression, and politics. Much of these views were shaped by what he saw during his time in the military. In 2003, Chris reported for duty to serve his country with the US Marines during the ongoing conflicts with the Middle East. Throughout his tour in Iraq, Nunez witnessed many instances of oppression and social injustice. This intimate perspective lends an honesty and sincerity to his music that sets Nunez apart from other artists. "Witnessing the oppression... my heart wept for the people who had no rights and equality. The Iraq war was an eye opener for me and challenged me to be more aware of what was going on around the world, especially in the third world," said Nunez. Nunez was signed to the independent label, PremUnite Records, in 2008. His music is inspired by the hope for change in a world full of oppression, and the dream of freedom from social, economic, and political tyranny. Pressed on the very pulse of current social issues like war, oppression, religion, and politics, Nunez' music is a heartfelt and colorful palette that paints a plaintive portrait of the state of our world. In his debut EP, he rises above the political mire and undertow to engage listeners in a meaningful dialog. His sinuous and signature raw vocals are carried by haunting, gritty lyrics, and ring out clearly above the status quo. Nunez is an intensely powerful musician who rocks with his own personal blend of edginess, social sensitivity, and a steady rock sound. Nunez' strong vocals are reminiscent of artists like Scott Weiland or Chris Cornell, and are carried by music that rocks as hard as Chevelle, RATM, or Linkin' Park, although his music steers decidedly clear of metal, thrash, or rage. His lyrical message is more closely aligned with that of musicians like Bob Marley. Ultimately, Nunez brings a wide range of musical influences together with an incredible artistic talent that will leave listeners hungry for more.
