~ Croatan High School Vocal Ensemble
This North Carolina group, Croatan High School's Vocal Ensemble, has performed many places in their home state. They are a very accomplished group that has performed in various venues in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, New York City, Philadelphia, Hawaii and even as far as Vienna, Austria. The talent of this group is evident in the awards and kudos that it has received over the past seven years, under the direction of Mrs. Barbara Swigart. Mrs. Swigart has taught vocal and instrumental music grades k-12 for the past 33 years. She has been selected as teacher of the year for the state of North Carolina and Who's Who among high school teachers for the past several years. The group consistently receives a Superior rating in performance and in Sight Singing at their State Festivals held each spring. Croatan High School houses 800 students in a semi-rural area of the coast of North Carolina. Some of their students live at the beach while others live as much as 30 minutes away from Emerald Isle. The seniors of this group have been together since sixth grade where Mrs. Swigart organized an after school choir program at their middle school. The school colors are black and gold and the mascot is the cougar. The school has placed in the top 10 schools academically in the state of North Carolina for the past 3 years. The students in this group are active in Student Government, FFA, Interact Club, Improv Club, Writers Guild, Science Olympiad, Quiz Bowl, Math Counts, Photography Club, Football, Basketball, Soccer, Tennis, Volleyball, LaCrosse, Cheerleading among other things. Many of these students also have high academic standing in their class to include the Valedictorian for 2008. Each year the majority of this group is involved in the all-school musical and as you can imagine, many of them are cast in leading roles. They have produced "Hello, Dolly!", "Guys and Dolls," "Cinderella," and "Thoroughly Modern Millie." This CD was a culmination of years of Festival Music. The group worked for 6 months to get their music ready to record while they had other major concerts and performances to complete. We hope you enjoy the variety of selections.
