Product Notes

D. LopesThe Bright Darkeness Unruffled and confident about his work, this young rapper strives to consistently write relevant lyrics and make intelligent music, much needed in this frequently one-sided hip hop world. Having earned respect for his flamboyant lyrical savvy and unscathed freestyle elegance, D. Lopes is now ready to take his swagger from the streets to the record stores. In the wake of his acclaimed sophomore album, 'The Bright Darkness,' this Brockton-based MC is on the verge of literally shaking the rap game. 'This album is symbolic of the type of music I make, intellectually dark,' says a modest and poised D. Lopes. A former DJ, used to make the crowd wiggle and heads waggle, D. Lopes was cognizant about what people wanted to hear: a non aggressive music free of profanity-driven lyrics but one that covers experiences he is gone through. Through solid, hard-hitting-hoards of high-spirited club tracks, unflappable laidback ballads, and old school sounds, sprinkled with African instrumentations, funk, Neo-Soul, Reggae, Rock and Roll, and Capeverdean loops, D. Lopes takes the listeners to his young but appealing world. 'Some people are close minded and might not listen to certain style of music,' explains D. Lopes. 'I try to do it the right way so they can listen to it. It is like we filled the gaps with things that were missing.' Teamed up with J. Beats with whom he produced and arranged 'The Bright Darkness,' impressive in it's musical and lyrical prospects, D. Lopes displays consistent flows over tracks such as 'Fresh,' 'My people,' 'Time after Time,' and 'Real or fake,' the opening song that will fit the bill in any clubs. D. Lopes, known to his mom as Daniel, takes a more personal and intimate approach on 'Don't Keep Me Waiting,' 'Nasty,' and 'Who Am I,' a song bound to cause some uproars. 'My mind is my nine, my pen is my Mac Ten, My Target is to hit the market, till they reach so deep in their pocket, it's streets talking without the guns...,' he raps. As it is customary in this milieu, he shows slight antagonism on 'Can't stop' and throws a few F bombs but never getting out of line. D. Lopes also demonstrates his loyalty and friendship on 'Calling me' featuring The specialist, an artist recently signed by Jive Records. 'This is a track that shows two artists who want to go forward in the game but never forget where they came from,' states D. Lopes. His favorite song off 'The Bright Darkness' is 'This One's for You (My Queen)' feat. J. Beats, he says. 'My mom has supported me so much through a lot of hardship, and I had to make this track so everyone could hear about this Queen.' D. Lopes, 23, started his musical career singing in an Elementary school chorus; he was three years old. At the age of seven, he started free-styling and later became a DJ. In 2003, he released a five-track album whose single 'Die For These Words' got heavy rotation on WERS (88.9) station in Boston, MA. Striving to be more than just a rapper, D. Lopes established Street Smarts Entertainment, along side J. Beats, Ary Santos, A-Rem-D-Sea, Lisa, Vany, and Frannie. This multifaceted company brings together talents in the areas of fashion, modeling, dancing, photography and much more. 'I don't want to limit the album. I don't know what is going to happen but I have a good product. We worked really hard and we will put it out as professional as we can,' he concludes.
