Product Notes

After touring with Ray Charles at age 18, and organist Jack McDuff the following year, saxophonist Danny Wilensky moved to New York. He recorded and toured with dozens of small groups, including Who It Is, featuring Cornell Dupree, Steve Gadd, Will Lee and Richard Tee, and Slickaphonics, featuring Ray Anderson and Mark Helias. After playing Bob Fosse's show Big Deal in 1985, Wilensky toured with Steve Winwood playing sax and keyboards. Other career highlights include touring with Joan Baez as her pianist, doing videos and TV shows with David Bowie, and playing with Rick Derringer in a TV house band. Wilensky's recording credits include thousands of jingles, and many TV theme songs including The Nanny, The Montel Williams Show, A & E Biography, King of the Hill, ESPN Sportscenter, The Martha Stewart Show, and Hollywood Squares. He has played on over 200 records, including hits by Santana, Madonna, R. Kelly, Freddie Jackson, Debbie Harry, Melissa Manchester, Donna Summer, Bryan Ferry, Keith Washington, Hall & Oates, Linda Eder, Mark Murphy, Sugar Beats, Jane Olivor, Deodato, The Roches, David Wilcox, Manhattan Transfer, Peter Moffit, Rory Block, and Faith No More. He's also featured on various film soundtracks, including Hairspray, Bossa Nova, Happiness, and A Chorus Line. Currently, Wilensky is featured in the music for the Emmy winning PBS children's show Between the Lions. His second method book, Advanced Sax is available at music stores worldwide and from Melbay.com. He performs, records, and teaches in New York, Los Angeles, and London. Danny's debut CD, AND THEN SOME, features 17 original instrumentals, recorded and mixed in New York's best studios by Kyle Kelso, and mastered by Michael Fossenkemper. Passion, soul, and humor reign on this recording. If you are tired of the same old same, this CD is for you! Danny blends elements of funk, blues, jazz, and rock in a timeless-sounding tour de force. You'll hear some of New York's finest musicians, including Vinnie Zummo, Shawn Pelton, Wayne Pedzwater, Jack Morer, John Conte, Ira Siegal, Vicki Genfan, Gary Sieger, and Jeff Levine. Musician's Exchange said, 'Wilensky's tone - whether on soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxes or flute and alto flute - is full of depth and warmth and expression. 4 stars.' Every time you listen to 'And Then Some' you will discover something new. It might even make you happy . . . !
