This is my follow up album to Vera Hall: Solo Harmonica . These new pieces are piano and harmonica. Once a month, over the last two years, when I had time off from teaching, I would go to the studio and record these pieces. Like my first album, the artwork I was doing at the time, floated through my mind and into these songs. ' Bus Window is the perfect soundtrack to a night drinking bourbon by moonlight; to longing for an ex-lover; to dipping into the blues in your soul. Dan Kaplan tells more compelling stories with his instrument than most singers do with their voices. The bittersweet, languid sound of his harmonica quivers it's way through the eight tracks on Bus Window with poise and conviction. He doesn't need any lyrics. Kaplan is also a visual artist, and by playing in the spillover between his two mediums, he finds an authentic and special creativity. My only complaint is the album's brevity.
