Detox is native to Los Angeles, born in 1979 to migrant parents who came to the U.S. in pursuit of the American dream. Detox was raised with family values, although dysfunctional, while at the same time raised off the streets where he has experienced good time as well as bad times. At the age of nine, Detox was writing comical lyrics based on mainstream hiphop radio hits and by 15, Detox was writing deep sentimental poetry as an outlet to the pain of a broken home, but shut out his talent for poetry when he was ridiculed and labeled as an outcast for expressing his pain with poetry. At the young age of 17, fresh out of high school, he joined the U.S. Army in an attempt to escape the dysfunctionality at home, and to GET MONEY outside of the streets. Serving in the armed forces exposed Detox to a whole new level of education, a world education. Traveling and seeing the 3rd world through the scope of a gun really began to take root in Detox' world perspective as he began to question "how can you bring peace under the power of a gun?" Tired of dealing with Billy-Bob personalities, and gong ho war hawk commanders, Detox separated from the army with an honorable discharge in 2000, after serving a 3 year bid of active duty service to Uncle Sam. Upon returning to the conventional (civilian) world, Detox was determined to get his hustle on. With a renewed interest in lyricism and poetry, and with fresh new eyes to look at the world from, Detox began taking his rap skills to the next level. With a will to change the world, Detox was on a mission to educate his listeners about what really goes on. Inspired by the resilience of the human spirit, and the will to live, Detox continues to create and express for all peoples of the world.
