Belle brooks - better known by her pseudonym Dirt Child - is a sculptor, Aquascapist and rapper from Mudgee, NSW. A keen sculptor by day, having studied sculpture, performance and installation at Sydney college of the arts (her most recent work, a near life-size sculpture of two giraffes copulating, has been exhibited at the Perth institute of contemporary art and Newcastle arts school), by night she's been working on something completely different: A unique and often hilariously obscene take on Aussie hip-hop. Discovered one night whilst Freestyling over dodgy beats for a laugh by major label desk jockey and producer, James Woods, he recognized something seriously good, brought it to our attention and now her debut five-track EP, rating, is the first release on fuse's beat no beat label. Dirt Child's rhymes and lyrical wordplay are sublime, like 'a thinking person's lady sovereign mixed with peaches' (chris cobcroft, 4zzz), and she's already earned airplay on triple j's home & hosed program.
