Product Notes

D.J. Jones, who has been described as a man possessed of a 'peculiar blend of talent, enterprise, knowledge, and dedication, ' is capitalizing on ten years of highly successful experience with a popular, vibrant pop and soul group in introducing his new solo act of Hip Hop Pop music. D.J. and his brothers, Ronald, Duke, and Eric Jones, formed a group called Radiant 10 years ago. The group achieved major corporate sponsorship (Coca-Cola, Anheuser-Busch, Hawaiian Tropic) and has performed with some of the biggest names in musical show business. Now on his own, D.J. has come up with some clean, fresh measures involving a unique mixing of music blends and sounds consisting of piano and strings. D.J. was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. During his career with Radiant he appeared on stage with acts including the Pointer Sisters, The Beach Boys, Stephanie Mills, The Four Tops, Atlantic Starr, New Edition, and many more. Starting as a local Washington, D.C sensation, the group grew to eight members and achieved national exposure with their album, CATCH THE GLOW, including the exciting single, 'Something's Got A Hold On Me.' They've played night clubs from Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas to Justines in New York City. They've been in the studio with Mick Murphy and David Frank, of the group The System. Using digital sampling, keyboards and harmonies, D.J.'s new music is as unique, clean, and fresh a sound as the name itself -- Hip Hop Pop. D.J. Jones' in -depth performing experience and national exposure form the basis for his entrepreneurial pursuit of his new music. Mixed with a distinct flavor of rhythm and jazz funk, Hip Hop Pop is a real audience pleaser. According to his advisor, Alan Warmund, expectations are that the combination of success in his previous endeavors, a track record of musical talent, and the uniqueness of Hip Hop Pop could spell great success for D. J. and that translates in a pleasant experience for his audience -- given the chance, get out and see D.J. titillate you with some new, refreshing and stimulating sound. WASHINGTON-In memory of the tragedy on September 11, Washington D.C.area musician D.J. Jones introduces his commemorative song 'Where Were You On 9-11?' 'What really inspired me to write the song were the images a year ago of all the people running from the Towers. You saw the ashes falling from the sky and the look's on their faces. Then you saw the gaping hole in the Pentagon. Everyone was confused and wondering about loved ones still in the buildings. It was a day of pain and suffering that all of us will never forget.' In addition to poignant lyrics, Jones brings to the song his unique blend of Hip Hop Jazz Funk as well as his mastery of computers and digital sampling. 'My blend of swing singing on top adds the emotion. It's different shades of color where people listening can choose what they like to focus in on.' Jones's focus in 'Where Were You On 9-11?' is actually on the optimism that has prevailed since terrorism hit American shores. 'We all have the capacity to pick and choose how we react to tragedies. We can behave without restraint and responsibility or we can allow ourselves to leap beyond our own expectations. The choice is ours. As Americans, we decided to act as heroes.' Formerly of the group of Radiant, Jones's solo turn not only features the pain of 9-11 but gives and intimate glimpse of his own personal tragedy. The flip side of 'Where Were You On 9-11?' is 'I Never Thought You'd Leave Me Alone' about his late wife's struggle with cervical cancer. 'I never thought she'd leave me alone. But her suffering and death have made me what I am today. As with 9-11, we all have to continue to live out our lives after we lose loved ones and meet life's challenges.' A portion of the sales proceeds from Jones's CD will go to benefit victims of 9-11 and towards cervical cancer research.
