Product Notes

Drake is what you would call a musical explorer; he has played to audiences throughout the world. With a master degree in criminology and a Ph.D. in clinical counseling, the title Dr. Drake is not just for fun. His music is complex and original without being strange and difficult to embrace. He plays to both the working class and the professional intellectual. Dr. Drake's style is both aggressive yet subtle, with lyrics that run deep but do not depress. His piano skills are extraordinary; he attacks the keyboard with power and grace. A wonderful blend of pop, classical, and jazz- something only a Professor could pull off. Born and raised in the streets of Detroit, he became quite a fighter. He join the U.S. Navy at the age of 18, a choice he says was one that saved his life. He believes that mankind has polluted their minds with concepts of power, control, and the ideal of race. His favorite influences in the music world are a mixed bag. With favorites like T Rex, Al Green, Green Day, Josh Turner, Johnny Cash, and the list goes on. The beauty of his music is that it is fresh and adventurous; a wonderful change of pace. Without straining to be different or unique, Dr. Drake has become just that. He views people as wildflowers in a field, their beauty and aroma are amplified by the splendid differences they possess. "How drab or monotonous it would be if all the flowers were the same and the fragrance never changed." Both the realist and the philosopher, the following quote best describes Dr. Drake's perception of life. "Sooner or later we must face our demons, drop our burdens and live. Young souls with eyes painted black living in self induced depression and fashionable insanity. The pressures are imagined or not beyond endurance. Youth is precious so don't live it like a grumpy old man. Let yourself fall to the sky, shake off the boredom and walk through the fire. Don't be deceived. A rock in the water will sink, but not a ship and we are ships designed to sail through life. Let's set sail and explore, seek out the treasures that will make our hearts full and our souls rich. As you meditate on the complex movements in the music and telling stories presented in the lyrics, be refreshed. Fear nothing, Fight for right, don't just live (thrive!), honor what is beautiful, Stand for peace." Dr. Drake (2006)
