BIOGRAPHY DR. LUMBA Creates an instant party mood with his fusion of calypso/soca with a jazzy reggae twist. Dr. Lumba an Emerald Jewel, a true Entertainment Icon from the volcanic island of Montserrat - "Emerald Isle of the Caribbean", was raised with firm Victorian concepts which concentrated duty, discipline and devotion. In 1987 this Professional Automotive/Motorcycle Technician migrated to the USA where he later unveiled his Singer/Songwriter/ Comedian and overall entertainer personality. Genre/Influence One very influential medium for such a great attraction to the art is the yearly Carnival season (December) on the island. During this time, Masquerades (young men dressed up in colorful costumes) dance all across the island to traditional African type music, captivating much attention. Same time during the festivities, 'The Calypso Monarch Competition', enables calypsonians to relish the opportunity of expressing their views - in song - to different social, economical and political issues prevalent in the community, or merely a humorous presentation (his favorite). He is a comedian at heart. Career Milestone At the turn of the century like an Easter lily in spring, up from this 'Singer/Songwriter/ Comedian Entertainer' shot a hibernated talent importing Caribbean warmth to the winter season and scorching up the summer. Since the 2002 release of his first album "Hype It Up", second album "Follow Me" and newly released album "In De Big Kat Pride", he's been mesmerizing audiences with action packed hit after hit like "Lick-E-Ting", "Mont-Serrat", "Party Animals" and "Soca Passova", as well as all title tracks. He's been raising many eyebrows with his self-choreographed performances at various events (clubs, boat rides, church functions, school concerts and special occasions) and carnivals across USA, Canada, UK and the Caribbean. Having performed song and dance from a very early age, this current three year reigning Calypso Monarch of Atlanta, GA. confidently provided onstage support for and performed alongside artists like, The Mighty Arrow, Sparrow, Shortshirt, Shadow, Singing Sandra, Crazy, Beenie Man and more. He's had media exposure via WNET channel 13 NY, The Boston Globe, Boston, MA. Gem radio T&T, St. Thomas V I radio, ABS & ZDK-Antigua, WLIB-NY, WILD-MA, ZJB-Montserrat and many more.
