Steven and Marcy started working together in the mid-1990s. They both have a great blend of jazz and classical training, and it gives them range with a capital R. This disc is surprising and wonderful. Every piece is unique, thoughtfully arranged, and the instrumentation is often breath-taking. The title track is sung into an open grand-piano, giving it a luminous and ethereal mood. Deeper dances over a full range of flute and piano, so intimate, you feel a part of the sound. Two of the pieces, Champagne Pools and Seafoam were inspired by a Dale Chihuly exhibition of blown-glass sea-creatures. November pays homage to a loved one lost. Eclipse explores the shadows and light of a lunar eclipse. Zannah Bradley contributes her version of a Winter's Dream, and Conrad DeJong offers his celebrated 'Heliotrope', re-cast for flute and piano Steven and Marcy style. The disc closes with a moving piece called Oceans, which reminds us all of the motion in our lives and the rhythms and cycles that move us to greater understanding of ourselves and our world. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the musical magic of Dream Sweet.
