Product Notes

Dusty started singing at age 3 in a small Baptist church in Sapulpa with his mom and dad. As he grew older he traveled to various churches and outings singing gospel music. He started taking piano lessons at the age of 5 which he did for about 6 years. Plus he's a self taught rhythm guitarist and songwriter. Dusty took dancing tap, ballet, and acrobats for about 5 years as well from the age of 5. He won several state and national piano contests, including qualifying for the district, state and international guild by the age of 10. He started performing country music during his freshman year in high school, at Sapulpa High School, Sapulpa, Oklahoma. There he sang George Strait's 'All My Ex's Live In Texas' and received a standing ovation from his piers. At that point he new music was his calling. Also he performed in Depew Ok. at the Theatre 66 Opry House for about 6 months, then moved to Bristow to the Creek County Jamboree under the Direction of Hank Titus who played Lead guitar for Boxcar Willie during their military service. He won several local and state talent competitions including 'The Oklahoma Opry' in Oklahoma City. After turning 21 he started trying to put his own band together, which he found to be much harder than expected, however he found a friend 'Danny Davis' of Danny Davis and the Detours who agreed to give Dusty a shot. They performed at 'Cowtown' in Shawnee Oklahoma and various other venues. Then Dusty quit playing music for about 2 years and worked as an aircraft mechanic for Composite International Tulsa,Oklahoma, but soon he felt something was missing 'The music', Dusty states. He had to have it. In June of 2002 at the age of 27 he decided to give up the aircraft job and move to Nashville and try his hand at the business professionally. From the beginning he landed a gig at Tootsie's Orchid Lounge on his second day in town. There he met a great friend, Mr.Conrad Pierce, an established songwriter who wrote 'Back On My Mind Again' for Ronnie Milsap. He started pointed Dusty in the right direction. Very soon Dusty, started appearing at the Broken Spoke Songwriter's Cafe and Saloon regularly in Nashville. He won several Talent contests at the Nashville Palace as well. There, he met Vern Gosdin who also became another close and important friend. During one performance at Tootsie's, Dusty met Eddie Montgomery of Montgomery Gentry and was approached during a break and said 'he had heard Dusty's name around town.' This of course brought much excitement because he'd only been there 4 months. Next, Dusty traveled to Elkhart, Indiana and appeared on the ELCO Theater's Hoosier Hayride Opry plus other local shows around northern Indiana and southern Michigan. This is also where Dusty began putting together his new and the group became known as Dusty Burke and Southern Justice. Together they played a show at the Nashville Palace the Saturday before Thanksgiving 2003 and got an enormous response from the packed house. Word got around town rather quickly, so Dusty and his band went into Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville the early part of January,2004 and cut their first all original CD along with 4 songs from Conrad Pierce. Incidentally Sound Emporium is owned by Garth Fundis who is Trisha Yearwood's producer. Chad Carlson was the engineer on our project and he did such a great job Dusty nicknamed him 'Merlin'.
