Magnificent Healing Over 65 minutes of relaxing music from Earth Mama Predominantly solo piano, Magnificent Healing contains a vocal prayer, a blessing, a poem for healing and mending, and a new piano-only version of Under the Rainbow. Magnificent Healing, inspired by ideas of healing ourselves, our communities and our planet, provides the perfect accompaniment for those activities in which you find healing: ? arts and crafts ? exercising ? reading ? baking ? gardening ? relaxing ? bathing ? hobbying ? sewing ? cooking ? knitting ? socializing ? dancing ? massage ? stretching ? dreaming ? meditating ? walking ? driving ? praying as well as the perfect distraction from those in which you don't: ? worrying ? waiting ? studying ? bill-paying ... A Magnificent Sound I feel so very much at home in the big stone worship spaces I often am privileged to perform in. My ear finds the path of the sound waves and instructs my voice to work in harmony with them. We have tried to replicate that same sound chamber in this recording of Magnificent Healing. In the studio while we mixed piano and vocal tracks to achieve the most effective entwined sound, I explained to the sound engineer, Rob Matson, how I wanted to duplicate the sound quality of these resonant spaces as closely as possible. As we played several choices of enhanced sound chambers, I was transported back to my childhood on a farm near Cresco, Iowa. We had a forty foot high concrete stave silo that by spring had been emptied and left to dry and air out for the summer. For the first time in more than forty years, I remembered at the age of 6 or 7 going into the open silo and beginning to sing. I loved the sound of the echo of my voice in the tall, open structure and stood there and sang and sang, testing the sound until I ran out of melody and words. I could hear so clearly the slightest variation of pitch. And even a whisper was clear and dramatic. I think I have been searching for years to somehow recapture the joy of that natural sound I discovered as a child. I hope that you will be captivated by this 'magnificent sound' as I have always been. Wishing you healing, love and Earthpeace, Joyce A Magnificent Idea...from you! I have found in my travels that many of you, who have a sincere concern for renewing the resources of the Earth, also appreciate the need for peace and renewal in your own lives. You often asked me when I was going to create a CD for relaxation and meditation. Your idea struck a chord with me and I began developing my own unique approach to a suite of music to soothe the pain and woundedness in our lives and our world. The theme of all of the songs I have chosen pivots around my desire for my music to be an instrument for healing on many levels. I wrote or chose these songs in support of those struggling with healing from stress and devastating illness, both physical and emotional. This music also reaches out to the need for healing in our families, neighborhoods, communities and culture. On a broader scale, these songs and recordings are my humble offering of prayers for healing the Earth. Magnificent Stories Copy: 1. "Just to Be" The words of Meister Eckhart, a 13th century mystic, inspired this song. The complete verse came to me in the midst of worship one morning. My composing time at the piano gave full melody to what has become my personal song for meditation for more than a year. 2. "All I do today" (Jan Novatka) The words and music of this song resonate perfectly with my desire for my own actions each day. I knew I wanted to record it the first time I heard Jan sing it. 3. "O, Earth!" My friend and wise woman, Sita Diehl, spoke these words out of the silence once day and I asked if I could write music around them. In the writing I felt such a celebration of joyful gratitude for how truly amazing is our Earth! 4. "Mending Song" I've tried to capture musically the deeply profound words of professor and poet, Paul Salstrom, a teacher from my Earth Literacy master's degree studies at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College. This poem describes the transforming power of admission, forgiveness and making amends to facilitate healing on many levels. 5. "How Would We Live" The lyric for this song came into my life in concert with my introduction to the Earth Charter. Once we understand that the Earth is a rich, living entity, an amazing, ever-renewing gift from the Divine, how can we not seek to live in harmony with the elegant systems of the natural world?! 6. "Bless Our Steps" I have sometimes felt the longing for a closing musical ritual when gathering with like-minded people. One Sunday morning near the end of worship in my faith community, these words and music came through me and perched on my heart. This song reminds me that I am merely a vessel for the vast energy of a holy Universe. I send it's blessings on to you. 7. "Mending Song II" (Instrumental) When I wrote this melody, I sometimes sat and played it many times in a row, experimenting with different variations. In the studio, after we had recorded the shorter version with words, I took a deep breath and 'let my fingers do the walking' once again. They took me down musical trails I did not expect, and resulted in this extended version. 8. "Under the Rainbow" In this song of faith and hope, the melody and sentiment of the Wizard of Oz standard have been overturned. We can no longer hold the childish belief that a better life lies beyond our reach. The responsibility for healing our world lies Under the Rainbow with people like you and me and the leaders of our world.
