Product Notes

Through the many years of loud rock with Chicago bands like Agatha, World Gone Mad, the Smushies, Hypermaximus, Billy Pilgrim, and more--love songs were brewing inside Eric Markowitz's brain. And heart. And beneath his fingers. Tired of hearing them only in his head, he called friends who called friends and gathered them all together at least via sound, then with world-renowned composer Jeff Kowalkowski behind the wheel created this CD, Eric Markowitz Conducts the Chamber Pot Orchestra. Some love songs, like 'Sweetest Sunshine' and 'Sometimes Something Nothing' seem to have only guitar and vox (there's more in the latter, though). Others, like 'Dear Griselda's Hair,' have a full band including a bass clarinet solo. 'I Always Thought in You I Found Love' and 'To all the Chicks I F***ed Before' sound like country music band stuff, while 'Galaxy' and 'Holy Road' sure as hell don't. Speaking of hell, 'Hell is Other People (or: Life's a Bitch, Love is Hell, Then You're Dead)' is an existentialirish drinking song, while 'Today's Scene from the Attic' is a steady scene in five. Three songs are male-female duets ('With Thee,' 'Cat Guts,' and 'Alright'), while 'L'amour de Eternite'' was sung by Kowalkowski at Markowitz's wedding duet (with Karla Zimmerman, who sings the duet on 'Cat Guts.') Follow that? And that brings us to 'Dear Love.' The CD ends by beginning on the strangest notes of all with 'By the Bye.' But it ends there in love: how can I keep from singing? Musicians on this CD include Ted Bonar, Sam Bradshaw, Doug Brush, Patrick & Madhuri Dempsey, Teri Foster, Miki Greenberg, Laura Hurwitz, Layni Katz, David Lynch, Greg Nergaard, Kate O'Reilly, Terry Smith, Steve Ursino, Mitch Zimmerman, and more. Love inspired these songs, talented friends created them, why not give a listen?
