Product Notes

Excerpts from a recent interview: 'How did you guys form as a band?' Mike (Guitar / Vocals) and I are brothers and have been playing together our whole lives. We started doing an acoustic gig at a local bar every Sunday night as a duo, until Joey (Guitar / Vocals), a good friend of ours, joined us every week. Then we picked up a rock n roll bar gig in Queens every week, covering other people's music. It came to a point where were doing everything together musically, we started writing songs. Nick (Bass / Vocals), a friend for years, who we've looked forward to working with, just happened to be in-between bands and was the perfect addition to the team. 'What did you do before you were in Four Wilson Drive?' Before Four Wilson Drive? Absolutely everything musically. We've all been gigging for years. I'd say over the past 5 years, we've easily done close to 2,000 gigs combined. Other than music, just trying to pay our collective rents. 'Who thought of your name? What does it mean?' I can't quite remember which one of us threw it into the 'picking a name' discussion at the time, but the name originated when my brother Mike and I were playing parties at his Summer house in the Hamptons located at, ironically enough, 4 Wilson Drive. 'How would you classify the type of music you play? Has the type of music changed since you guys got together?' It's hard for me to pinpoint an exact type of music, but I'll give it my best shot. We all sing, lead and backgrounds, so there are a lot of harmonies in the songs. It's kind of alternative / pop-rock I guess. I always thought that a good song could stand the test of time, no matter what type of music was 'in'. We just try to write good songs. 'What bands have influenced your style?' This is a tough question. We are all very well versed in music and have many different musical tastes. It's not so much which bands directly influenced our style, but which bands influenced each individual member as we grew musically. As a band, our individual influences all contribute to the Four Wilson Drive sound. To try and touch upon it for a moment, I'll name four bands, one for each member of Four Wilson Drive...Indigo Girls, Van Halen, Al Green, and Queen. There, you try and figure it out. 'How do you decide who does what (writing lyrics, music, guitar chords, etc.) within the band?' Writing songs comes easy with the band. One of us will bring in an idea, sometimes close to finished, sometimes just a musical lick, or a catchy hook. Then we all work at fine tuning it and making it our own. I am so impressed with the chemistry in this band when it comes to collaboration. Everyone adds his own ingredient that makes it work for us. 'What's your greatest accomplishment so far as a group?' We invented that little plastic widget that pizza parlors put between the pie and the box to prevent the cheese from squishing all over the place. Honestly, I can't say that we've had one single great accomplishment thus far as a band, but there are many little accomplishments that are achieved on a daily basis, all being as equally important as the next, in our strive for success. 'So you have local gigs, you get airtime occasionally on local radio stations... what's the next step towards whatever your goal may be?' You know, you think you know what the next best thing to do is, but this business is so unpredictable that all I can say at this point is, that we are going to keep playing gigs and writing music, and keep pushing this thing forward as hard as we can, with everything we've got. 'What is your ultimate goal for Four Wilson Drive?' The ultimate goal for Four Wilson Drive is to do this for the rest of our lives. There is no better feeling for any of us, than getting up on stage and playing our own music for people. It is the best feeling in the world, and it's all we want to do. - Johnny Four Wilson Drive is: Johnny Soler - Drums / Vocals Mike Soler - Guitar / Vocals Joey Regalbuto - Guitar / Vocals Nick Pinto - Bass / Vocals.
