It's not everyday that a singer-songwriter can grab you; with both what they say and how they sing it-- and Columbus, Ohio-based FRANC ALEDIA does just that. Aledia writes memorable and melodic songs. Choruses and harmonies that are reminiscent of an old Badfinger record, with progressions and melodies that bring to mind the likes of Stone Temple Pilots meets Toad the Wet Sprocket. A little bit Americana, and a lot of rock and roll-- Franc Aledia's solo career has just begun. Aledia just recently released his debut full-length solo effort in June of 2005, on Ma Records. Not only did he write this record, he also produced it, which is a new frontier for Aledia. The material is steeped in inspiration yet distinctly different from anything heard on the radio today. Behind the songs you can hear Don Henley in Aledia's soaring vocal, Elvis Costello in his lyrics and Oasis in his catchy hooks: these new creations speak to everyone. The production is an effortless tapestry of sound, weaving layers of acoustic guitars, 70's sounding rock guitars, tambourines, lush harmonies and even ominous strings. 'I had a lot more freedom with the songs on this album,' Aledia explained. 'I felt I needed more than the standard rock approach and I wasn't limited to the abilities or the interpretations of anyone else. Being able to produce this record on my own enabled me to create something exactly how I heard it in my head.' As the former leader and main writer of the rock band ...AS IS, an Ohio-based quartet that opened for everyone from Maroon 5 to Bowling for Soup, Aledia honed his skills as a performer as well as a songwriter. The band recorded in NYC with engineer Peter Keppler (David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, The eels) and on the heels of the success of the release of their eponymous debut e.p. (over 6000 sold) and their live shows, ...As Is won the 'Peoples Choice Award' at the Greater Columbus Music Awards. Drawing from a deep well of influences, Aledia listened to and was inspired by everyone from U2 to The Finn Brothers to Stevie Wonder, and these elements can be heard in all of his songs. Aledia was always singled out for his work as a songwriter. He was invited to perform in a BMI Singer-Songwriters Roundtable. He had songs that were placed in television soundtracks on shows including MTV's 'Road Rules' 'Undressed' and 'Making the Video.' Aledia has kicked off his solo career by landing a sponsorship from Jagermeister and has taken on the task of writing the theme song for the NBC/Ohio show 'Our Ohio.' Already one of his songs from the new record has been placed in the soundtrack of the film 100 Years of Flight. He's even been co-writing with Indianapolis 500 Winner and Rahal/Letterman racecar driver Kenny Brack. With the strength and buzz from his regional acclaim, Aledia hopes this solo effort will be well received nationally. Hits Magazine featured ...As Is in their 'Who's Buzzin Where?' feature and Aledia hopes that with National press already behind him he can reach the next level of success. Aledia is ready to show America what he can do with his infectious new songs and charismatic live performances and plans a Summer 2005 East Coast tour in conjunction with the new release. With live radio appearances and in-stores accompanying the club dates, Aledia plans to bring his music to the masses. Appreciates of both singer-songwriters and pop-rock music will love what Franc Aledia is doing now-recording, performing and releasing damn good music.
