The artist . . . Frances Drost is a singer, songwriter, pianist and recording artist from Pa. Involved in music all the way through high school at Shalom Christian Academy of Chambersburg, Pa., where her classmates voted her 'most musical', Frances had her first opportunity for songwriting when asked to write the music behind the lyric and melody of a tune written by her fellow classmates for their graduation ceremony. The piece was titled 'If You Have A Dream'. The song goes on to say, '...don't let anything dim it. Have faith, keep praying, the sky is the limit'. Little did she know how true that song would become of her own life. Frances is also known as a contemporary worship leader and finds great fulfillment in that aspect of music. She has served in that capacity for years with P1M (Priority One Ministries): a cross-cultural short-term missions program for youth, along with travelling around the world doing music at conferences and events. Her purpose . . . Psalms 9:9 says 'The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed...a tower of strength in time of need'. This is a good summation of the music Frances writes. She sees each song as a potential tower of strength for those who are hurting: a place of refuge and safety from the 'storms of life'. Having been ministered to many times by music, she understands that it is a powerful, God-given tool, with which to touch people, and she greatly enjoys using her gifts for just that. Her music . . . The writer of her own music, Frances is known as transparent, natural and sincere in her writing. She usually begins writing a song based on an experience she has had or an inspirational phrase that forms in her heart. It has been said, 'be careful about inviting Frances to your home; she may write a song about you'. Although that is certainly true, if she writes about you, it will only be to inspire others and your name won't be mentioned! However, one thing is for sure, if something really moves her, you will usually find her singing about it. her concerts . . . Not only is Frances transparent in her songwriting, but in concert as well. Integrating stories with songs, you will usually find a theme to all of her concerts. From intimate, heartwarming lyric, to fun, upbeat music, she enjoys tailoring each concert to the group she is ministering to.
