The Gene Pool officially formed in March 2002 in Austin, TX. It was then that Gene (Geno) Stroia II committed to the concept that three singer/songwriter/guitarists could contribute equally to both songwriting and performing. He called on long-time musical peers, Jackie Hibbard and Jorge Castillo to help realize the power and potential of musical synergy. A smattering of low-profile shows at various venues proved that there was definite chemistry not only between the musicians, but most importantly with the audience. Word spread quickly about the performances, leading to higher profile shows including an ongoing Sunday night residency at The Saxon Pub following The Resentments (Stephen Bruton, Jon D.Graham and 'Scrappy' Jud Newcomb). A growing audience and write-ups in the Austin Chronicle and the Austin American Statesman have now spawned increased regional tour dates and a recently released 6 song EP.
