The Gin Club are an all-singing, all-dancing musical collective from Brisbane. Since forming in 2003, this conglomeration of solo performers, multi-instrumentalists and hangers-on has garnered a reputation as one of Australia's finest ensembles. The Gin Club presents an eclectic mix of traditional folk and country, with a good dash of rock 'n' roll, topped up with glorious harmonies and heart-rending lyrics. Featuring the talents of (at last count) six distinctive song-writing voices, and backed by an accompaniment including piano, cello, accordion and harmonica, The Gin Club presents a varied, yet beautifully cohesive collection of tunes. Their debut self-titled album and second release Fear of the Sea have both received widespread acclaim, with single "Drugflowers" being added to high-rotation on national youth broadcaster Triple J. The Gin Club are currently recording their third album, to be produced by Australian legend Magoo, which will see the band build on their already outstanding depth of talent, broadening some horizons, yet retaining the honesty and grit that have earned them such a loyal following thus far. With extensive Australian touring under their belts, a trip to Canada in 2006 and a New Zealand jaunt planned for 2007, The Gin Club have rightfully earned themselves a reputation as an impressive live act. They have performed with international acts including Midlake, Soundtrack of Our Lives, Iron and Wine, Laura Veirs and Lambchop, as well as local artists such as The Drones, Youth Group, You Am I, Bluebottle Kiss, The Kill Devil Hills, Tim Rogers and the Temperance Union, and countless others. In 2007 they have performed at the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival in Byron Bay and the Yag'ubi Festival in Hervey Bay, and have in the past performed at the Cockatoo Island Festival and Festival of the Sun. Their instrument-swapping, bad joke-telling on-stage antics have become the stuff of legend. With up to nine members on stage at any given time, what threatens to be madly chaotic is in fact a beautifully measured group performance, which never fails to impress, and is an experience not soon forgotten.
