Product Notes

GRANT NORWOOD Grant Norwood was born at Pine Bluff, Arkansas to a highly sports oriented family. He is the youngest of three brothers, the first two of whom were All-American athletes. While he still loves sports and it's discipline, the greatest thing that sports did for Grant was to instill an extremely developed sense of competitiveness into his life, which continues to give him an edge that cuts through in all of his efforts. While it was wholly expected of him to follow in his brother's footsteps, he began choosing music over sports as young as 12, when he had his first garage band. A Kent hollow-bodied electric guitar with a Sears' Silvertone amp was his poison of choice from the git go. It still inspires him to remember how great they were ! Even though his music always occupied the most vital part of his soul, he did manage to let the family lean on him enough to get a full football scholarship to the University of Central Arkansas, where he promptly fell in love with a cheerleader, and abandoned sports again for his first love, music. Grant is the most talented multi-instrumentalist songwriter/producer to come along in the last decade. When you give him a listen you'll find this out for yourself. You'll hear songs that are visionary and haunting, while others are raucous and raw rockin', the single most common thread in all, being their ability to stick in your mind, and continue replaying their captivating imagery long after you've listened to them. At $50. Per night at (the long gone and famous) 'Nita's Penthouse' in Pine Bluff, Grant was privileged to play with The Drifters, The Platters, The OJays and Gatemouth Brown, who all contibuted greatly to his 'soul' side. He then went on to tour with Arkansas recording artists The Wilson Brothers, and still works and writes today with one of the brothers. Having to take a job at 'Jimmy Doyle's Country' also gave him opportunity to back such country stars as Mel McDaniels, Guy Clark, Ben E. King, Johnny Paycheck and many others. After Doyles', he put his own band back together as 'The Big Boys'. His extensive studio experiences at Summit Burnett at Dallas, Ardent at Memphis, L.A.'s Mad Dog and Kyle Lenning's Studio at Nashville have provided him with opportunities to work with Dale Hawkins (Susy Q), members pf Devo, Dean 'PeeWee' Mathis (of The New Beat's 'Bread & Butter') members of Black Oak Arkansas, 'Duck' Dunn, and the world's top rated bassist, Joe Osborn. One of the odditys of Grant's career, is that you can go into most any 'funeral home' in America and hear the automated music with which they are equipped, and they will all be tracks that Grant produced ! Grant and 'The Big Boys' currently tour Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi weekly, playing 'covers'. Grant works in his own studio as well as many others. For an unique listening experience grown from Grant's past year's work - here's 'The Big One'.
