Product Notes

Buddy Clifton, originally from Douglas, Arizona has family roots in Pike County Kentucky and has been playing music since he was 10 years old. While on tour with the country/rock band Steel Breeze, Buddy has shared the stage with the Kingston Trio, Sam the Sham and the Pharos, Sonny Thogmartin, and others. At a bluegrass festival in Tucson, he met banjo-legend Larry McNeely and moved to Southern California to study with him. Buddy plays banjo and dobro and sings harmony, some lead. He does occasional song writing and the group plays several of his original instrumentals. Don Branson, A native of Southern California, Don has played Guitar and Mandolin with a number of bands including Harmony and Grits, Rock Springs Road and Clearly Bluegrass. Don sings lead and harmony vocals and has written several songs and is the source of some of the bands original material. Don is the 'Front Man' of the band and if the band will allow he will be telling jokes and having fun. Dave Wilson came from Wisconsin to Southern California in 1967 compliments of the Air Force, and has only been involved in bluegrass since 1996. His first experience playing with a band was with David Dickey and The Slover Mountain Boys, and was recruited to play with a newly forming group called Clearly Bluegrass about a year later. Trying to balance the schedule with two bands was hectic at times but not insurmountable. Dave plays upright bass with the group and sings some lead and harmony. Bill Elmore is almost a native of California. Born in the Lone Star State of Baja Oklahoma his early influence in country music & guitar made it a natural to take a-likin to Bluegrass music. His first exposure to Bluegrass was jamin at the Coffee Haus in Orange, Ca, with Chris Rudd. Later he joined Bill Robinson & the 'South Wind' band. Bill plays mandolin with the group and sings tenor harmony. Randy Carder came from Newton Kansas to Southern California. Trained in classical music all through his school years, for some reason he put the violin down for the guitar. He decided to pick it up again and purchased a violin and took lessons. When Dave Wilson found out that Randy was back into the Violin, (they work together), Dave hounded Randy to join the group he was in at the time. It wasn't until Dave Wilson and Don Branson started to talk about forming a new band with Buddy Clifton and Bill Elmore, Grass Backwards, that Dave finally shamed him into it, and Randy is glad he did. Randy no longer plays the 'Violin', he now plays the 'Fiddle'.
