Product Notes

Gratidude (Danny Moses) creates music that is a personal reflection of the struggle and ultimate surrender to recovery. Some of the music concerns loss, but most speaks of celebration. The modern, jazz-oriented songs, written, composed and performed entirely by the artist, are about freedom, gratitude and not forgetting. It\'s about logic and magic. It\'s about remembering the basic things needed to keep a new life. With a strong awareness of his musical heritage, Danny has incorporated traditional blues forms as well as jazz and pop styles into his performance. His clear, sensitive vocals, and stirring, compassionate message of recovery, creates a distinctive and exciting sound. Danny Moses grew up in Pasadena and his earliest musical memories are listenening to gospel music on the radio with his father on Sunday nights. He started playing piano when he was 10 and quickly moved to the cello. His singing career begin in a men and boys cathedral choir when he was 12 (he remembers he was 12 because that\'s when he was racing quarter midgets with his brother). He played trumpet in junior high and piano for a vocal group. In high school he played trumpet in the orchestra and sang with an acappella quartet. During college he studied \'Sing Out,\' a folk music magazine, and taught himself to play guitar. He sang in the Pepperdine College Production of \'Carousel\' and toured with their accapella choir. Danny started his professional musical career in 1965 performing in Hollywood night clubs as part of a vocal duo \'Two People.\' They were signed to A&M Records and a single \'Barbara\' was released. During this time he also performed in L.A. nightspots as a single act. Later he signed a contract with Capitol Records as a performing member of the group, \'Mosiac Tweed\' and co-wrote their single \'Comin\' Home.\' In 1970, he toured the United States and Canada with \'Disney on Parade\' in the character of \'Dopey.\' Esther Rolle recorded two of Danny\'s songs, \'What If\' and \'Maybe It's\' for Savoy Records, during the time he was a staff writer for Audio Arts Publishing Company. During the 1980\'s, Danny performed in the L.A. area as a solo artist and with small ensemble groups at colleges, nightclubs and caberets. In 1993, Danny formed the \'Gratitude Choir.\' The focus was on recovery and for 3 years, the choir performed Danny\'s original songs at local recovery talent shows and coffee houses. The songs Danny wrote for the choir evolved to become the foundation for his album, \'Powerless.\' In 1996, after a performance in Monterey, California, someone asked the fateful question, \'do you have a CD?\' Danny had been working on his home computer and midi setup and he was at a crossroads: should he replace his recently expired car...or should he buy the equipment he needed to go ahead and record an album? The choice is history and \'Powerless\' is the result. In His Own Words Now you\'re probably wondering what happened in that gap between \'The 1980\'s\' and the formation of the Choir. That\'s about the time that the disease of addiction became a prominant player in my life. Without going into the sordid details, let\'s just say that my life got progressively worse and the music eventually disappeared. By the time 1990 rolled aound, I was done. That\'s when I surrendered to the process of Recovery and started a new life. There are so many things that have changed in my life since I\'ve been clean, but equally important are the things that have returned. Having my music back in my life has made me a complete person again. This project is not only a celebration of Recovery, it is my way of saying thank you to people all over the world that make up the biggest loving, caring family on the planet. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed creating.
