The wife and husband duo of Laurie Rose Griffith & Peter Mealy have been performing together since 1995. They were voted Fredericksburg's Best Duo for 2001, and were nominated for the Governors Award for Artistic Aceivement in Virginia. Laurie and Peter have been nominated for 8 WAMMIES and their CD, 'Tocoi Light was voted Best Debut Album of The Year by the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA). 'Tocoi Light', comes 'Highly recommended' from Dirty Linen magazine, and has been hailed by the Washington Post for the duo's 'Lovely voices, deft guitar work and fine songs.' Laurie and Peter have performed at the prestigious Philadelphia Folk Festival, and were finalists at the Kerrville Newfolk Competition. They have showcased at the Falcon Ridge Festival and have opened for such national acts as Dar Williams, Jorma Kaukonen, John Gorka, Janis Ian, Chris Smither and Saffire. Laurie is a compelling singer and gifted interpreter of great songs. Her rich soprano draws every nuance and emotion from a lyric; World Folk Music Associations, Dick Cerri, says 'Laurie has the ability to get right to the heart of a song.... It's easy to fall in love when you hear her sing.' While steeped in the tradition of great interpreters like Judy Collins and Joan Baez, she can deliver a blues or country rocker with authority, or finesse a jazz standard with style and intensity. As a guitarist she is a strong, versatile player with an impeccable sense of rhythm and groove. Peter has been hailed by Northern Virginia Rhythm for his 'Superlative compositional and technical skills.' He has been nominated for Contemporary Folk Instrumentalist of the Year by the Washington Area Music Assn. And has been a first place winner in the Mid Atlantic Songwriting Competition. A studied instrumentalist, Peter's guitar arrangements can 'leave an audience speechless.' (Northern Virginia Rhythm) Peter is the author of 'Melodic Fingerstyle Guitar' and has contributed columns and features to Bluegrass Unlimited, Acoustic Musician and the Freelance Star Laurie and Peter's music is the result of two established artists who are versed in many styles and traditions.
