Eastsound is a small town located on beautiful Orcas Island, in the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington State. It is also the name of the long and deep sound that nearly divides Orcas Island in two. While Hans was living on the island he wrote this mandolin based instrumental album, featuring a different island location for each tune. Hans plays mandolin, guitar, bass and Native American flute on these evocative and emotionally packed pieces. The busy little town of Eastsound is reflected in the piece of the same name along with tunes about Mountain Lake (a favorite walking place for islanders and visitors), Orcas Landing, Doe Bay (Doe Bay Boy), Madrona Point (Madrona Jig), Victorian Valley, the ferry landings (Cormorant Waltz), and My Two Left Feet (island folks love to dance all around the island). For visitors or for long time islanders, this CD provides a musical snapshot of beautiful Orcas Island. Hans has toured and recorded with two time Grammy winner Native American recording artist Bill Miller, appearing on the Today Show, Austin City Limits, the World Cafe and the PBS special 'Songs of the Spirit'. Miller and Mayer have opened for top acts including Willie Nelson, Tori Amos, Pearl Jam and the BoDeans. 'You Are The Rain', a song co-written by Mayer and Miller, was featured on the soundtrack of the Rick Schroder independent film 'Black Cloud'. Hans has performed and recorded with a number of Midwest rock and bluegrass bands including singer/songwriter Johnsmith. Hans is also an award winning writer and performer of music for kids and families. His children's CDs include the environmental album, It's Our World: the Green Album (2009 Creative Child Magazine Green CD of the year, a 2009 Parents' Choice Recommended Award and an Independent Music Awards finalist for Children's CD of the year).
