Since their inception Highway J has made their presence felt on the Illinois music scene and with them brought their unique, melodic, and intricate style to the mix. The band has drawn comparisons to Radiohead and Hum but they prefer to think of themselves as originals. In a market inundated by cover and party bands, Highway J strives to set themselves apart by above all remaining true to one thing: good music. The members of Highway J derive their individual styles from a diverse variety of influences that range anywhere from the intricacies of Dream Theater to the powerful riffs of System of a Down. In that vast variety of influence comes a sound that is both layered and organic. Foremost, the band retains a focus on creating melodic riffs without losing a driving edge. Highway J's latest collaboration, 'Pieces', was recorded over the last year, and the first stand out track on the album, 'Harlot's Home', combines a classic lead riff coaxed to completion by harmonizing rhythm guitars and powerful vocals which together are sure to compel the listener. The musical depth and expertise of Highway J is hard to ignore throughout the variety in the rest of the album.
