Born on the anniversary of the victory day in the Battle of New Orleans, eccentrically funny Hip Hop artist Impulss was clobbered by a vast array of influences. New Orleans East in the 80's was a hodgepodge of everything from Vietnamese noodles (which kids ate dry) to teens getting shot in the rump at church fairs. From the Pointer Sisters to Twisted Sister, Run-DMC to Weird Al Yankovic, Impulss absorbed the whole world at the same time until that day he came across the tune, 'Funky Beat,' by Whodini. From that moment on Hip Hop would be the leading lady in the life of one crazy bastard named Daniel Perez. He soaked in as much as he could like a romantic in a new love affair, absorbing the styles of Slick Rick, Black Sheep, Big Daddy Kane, Tim Smooth, The Fat Boys and Just-Ice among many others over the years that followed. Decadent, yet lightly refreshing, Impulss refined his high-pitched rhyme spitting capabilities on the streets of New Orleans and became an early 90's Canal St. Legend. No Earth day passed where he was not becoming more popular, whether the location was in front of the Krauss on Canal and Basin or at a St. Leo's Catholic fair. Eventually that popularity led to throwing Hip Hop parties along with others to maintain the dwindling community base in NOLA once Bounce music blanketed the city and overtook the minds and booties of the generation. The hard work of 'Pulss and his cronies paved the way for the current scene of open mic M.C. battles and parties going on today. Impulss eventually moved to Atlanta to attend the Art Institute of (guess where) Atlanta intending to attain a degree in Music Entertainment Management. After achieving this not-so-lofty goal, 'Pulss stuck around for 6 years more becoming a recognizable figure in the ATL community at local spots such as the Yin Yang Cafe' and spit the chorus for Arista recording artists The Youngbloods on the remix for their single 'U-WAY' featuring Lil' Wayne. He ran a short tenure on the now-defunct Last Place On Earth label where he performed his brand of musical hilarity on songs with the likes of the once-codpieced Larry Blakmon, Joi from Lucy Pearl, and the JB Horns until the company closed it's doors in '99. After a few months of being record companyless, 'Pulss moved back to the N.O. In the early days of the new millennium, Impulss obtained a management and production agreement with the very talented hit-making producer Dorian 'Soul Dog' Daniels and his company 'Soul Dog Music.' Now part of a great team 'Pulss learned much about making hit records and just good music in general. As a result of the magnificent tunes 'Pulss and Soul Dog created, Impulss received a demo deal with Def Jam South Recordings and was flown to NYC on the strength of one song, which was called by the label's C.E.O., 'The greatest single I have ever heard in my life for a first time artist.' Unfortunately, politics of the business prevailed and Impulss was back in N.O.LA. ^#^plotting his next move. Persuaded by his management to go back to NY to finish the demo, Impulss borrowed $200, packed a duffel bag of clothes and hopped on a plane out to NYC 2 months before the horrid events of 9/11. While there, he slummed and bummed his way along, sleeping on random couches and subway benches until scoring a room in the seediest of tenements - a 6'x4' hole with wire mesh for a ceiling where falling asleep to the sound of an adult male heroin addict or two masturbating was not uncommon. It all paid off in the end and a few short months later he was lounging in a Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn brownstone, home to legends such as The Notorious B.I.G. and Big Daddy Kane. After a year and a half of recording and shopping, Impulss and his management unfortunately went their separate ways in a gentlemanly fashion. Left to his own devices, Impulss obtained his own recording studio, recorded a whole slew of new material, and placed tracks on mixtapes such as N.O.R.E.'s 'What Up To The Hood' with an accompanying DVD, and laced Germany's own 'Kool Savas' with a mixtape track as well. During all of this, he kept his name alive in The Big Easy by being a main music provider for Cox 10's program 'Timecode: NOLA.' Missing the New Orleanian lifestyle after 2.5 years of working the NYC circuit and being offered several record deals, he started looking to plant himself back in his roots. From erasing Stevie Wonder's beat at work in New York City to breaking Chico DeBarge's keyboard while performing live on stage in Kentucky, Impulss' list of achievements is tremendous. Since the day this mutant of the English language picked up his 1st mic, he has recorded and worked with many artists and producers on all sides of the industry from Scarface to Mr. Man of Bush Babies fame. Looking to score some serious local cool points, Impulss is self-employed these days and working to drop the secret weapon entitled, 'Impulss' Beats and Lagniappe Social and Pleasure Club,' very soon. 'Lagniappe' is a drunken album which displays Impulss' knack for weaving in and out of different characters which pepper the disk like a one man comedy sketch show reminiscent of old Cheech and Chong albums. It is Hip Hop music to make you swallow shots, get you suspended from school, move your body, and get your rear brown-eye open. He is Confucius meets Jay and Silent Bob, Anne Rice meets Chevy Chase. If Mos Def grew up in New Orleans and Ferris Bueller, Superfly, and Kevin Smith were his best friends, you would have someone resembling Impulss. With a new CD underway and a feature length film about to go into production, New Orleans is about to have a whole lotta fun.
