Excerpts from a Diary[CD]
~ The Jason Nett Guitar Quartet
Jason Nett is quickly becoming one of Canada's most exciting new composers. He has had commissions and performances by such groups as The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, The Vancouver Island Symphony Orchestra, The Vancouver Guitar Quartet, the Aventa Ensemble, The B.C. Boy's Choir, and Pacific Spirit Choir to name a few. He is currently in his second season as the "composer in residence" for the Vancouver Island Symphony Orchestra. Nett is also a sought after producer and has worked locally and internationally with many pop and rock acts. Jason is an accomplished performer as well, and has toured throughout Europe, the States, Mexico, and Canada as a rock musician and a classical musician. "Excerpts from a Diary" was recorded in the early fall at Sonoma Mountain Studio just north of San Francisco. The guitar quartet is an extremely intimate ensemble, and Jason has turned to this format for some of his most personal music. "Whenever I want to write something very personal...just for me, I turn to the guitar quartet as my means to express those ideas". The pieces on the album were written over the course of the last 5 years, and represent the experiences both musically and personally that took place during that time. The recording process was an intense one. Jason not only produced, engineered, and mixed the album, but was the sole performer as well. Nett entered the studio during the last week of September and emerged 2 weeks later with Excerpts from a Diary. "It was one of the hardest things I've ever done", says Nett, "yet definitely one of the most satisfying experiences I've ever had." Even though Jason's playing is the only fret work on the album, live he has 3 other extremely talented guitarists join him. "I absolutely love performing, and can't wait to get out and play this music for people live!"
