Product Notes

Jhon Kahsen BIO Johnny Case, a.k.a. Jhon Kahsen, was born August 24, 1947, to musical parents. Most of his childhood was spent in Paris, Texas, where he and his older brother, guitarist Jerry Case, became child performers on area stage, radio, and television shows. By late 1964 when the Cases relocated in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Johnny had become a pianist playing in dance bands. Known primarily as a jazz pianist, Johnny has performed with such distinguished jazz figures as James Clay, Billy Hart, Marchel Ivery, and Colin Bailey. In 1983 Case played at a reception for Ornette Coleman at the opening of Fort Worth's Caravan of Dreams. Most remarkable, perhaps, is the fact that Case has been playing mainstream jazz nightly for over 20 years at Sardines Ristorante in Fort Worth. In the spring of 2003 Johnny related many of his music memories and experiences in an extensive oral history conducted by Dr. Peggy Brown for the University of North Texas. In June 2004 he was among the inaugural class of four veteran performers inducted into the Fort Worth Music Hall of Fame by FW Weekly newspaper. In September 2004 Case released Waiting For the Moment on Seabreeze, appeared with his quintet at Jazz by the Boulevard, and celebrated the 21st anniversary of his jazz gig at Sardines. Although apolitical by nature, Johnny has become a political activist since the U.S. invasion of Iraq. He and his wife, Kitty, have marched in Crawford, attended war protests in Austin and Fort Worth, and distributed corporate-free alternative news publications. Beginning in 2005 all of Johnny's productions are issued with his 'muslimized' name of Jhon Kahsen to represent his compassion for the countless civilian victims of U.S. atrocities.
