Product Notes

In 2001, Jim lost his small business. He was a very successful small business entrepreneur and his identity was tied up in it. His purpose in life was to make as much money as possible and make the world a better place by how he used that money after making a comfortable life for himself. Jim holds a business degree in finance, and that was what he immersed himself in. When he was just a boy, he dreamed of being a recording artist. When he went to college he was faced with the realities of making money, and the peer pressure to keep up with everyone. As a result, he let himself get sidetracked. He was influenced by the worldviews prevalent in our society today. The big one for him was materialism. Effectively, he worshiped the acquisition of wealth. Making a living with your career is important. We all need to pay for our housing, our groceries, and clothes. We need transportation if we are to be competitive in the job market. But Jim didn't learn that it is easy to get caught up in the race for the "good life" until he lost his business. This was a major life crisis. It was his identity, and his purpose in life that had come crumbling down. All he did was do what he was taught, without really thinking it through. It was what everyone else was doing, so it seemed there was no need. But, thinking about our fundamental beliefs about how reality works is critical to succeeding in life. So that is what he started doing. "The Stone" is one of the songs on the CD that expresses how futile it is to put too much trust in money. If we become materialistic, we will eventually find ourselves in debt because we keep wanting more. That becomes our mission in life, to get more. That is what Jim did for awhile but ultimately God's provision was the only thing in life that was reliable. "Surrender" is another song that continues the theme. It is hard to let go of all these things that have made us comfortable in life, but can disappear overnight. We have to let go of it all, and rely on God to provide through us as we serve Him. We should find our comfort and security in Him. This is why Jim has dedicated his first CD to GINA for Missing Persons. Jannel Rap, the founder, took her crisis and turned it into an opportunity to help others. The greatest commandment tells us to love God, and we love God when we worship Him. We can worship Him by loving and serving others. GINA for Missing Persons is doing just that for families that are hurting. There is no better way to make your life mean something, give your life purpose. This kind of generosity is an antidote for materialism for Jim. Jim's calling is to sing about these worldviews. He'd like to get people thinking about the beliefs they are picking up that could be destructive to their lives. Materialism is but just one of these.
