I was born in New Orleans the son of a Jazz Legend, "Nick" LaRocca composer of "Tiger Rag" and the leader of the "Original Dixieland Jazz Band" the band that made the first Jazz recording, the recording that changed forever how Music would be interpreted. My first introduction to music and the Trumpet, (Cornet), was through my father, He gave me my first lessons when I was ten years old. He could not read or write music. His teaching method was original to say the least. As I got older my father decided it was time for me to receive formal Trumpet lessons and for me to learn how to read music. I was sent to an instructor that was the conductor of the Loyola College band and played in the New Orleans Symphony, George Jensen. I played dance music around New Orleans with many different groups until I had the opportunity to play at the "Famous Door" on Bourbon St. In the late 1960's with a nationally known Jazz Trombone player, Santo Pecora. In 1997 I started composing music, Jazz, Latin, And Ballard's, many with lyrics. This CD, "Jimmy LaRocca", contains sixteen out of the 6390 tunes I have under copyright at this time. The seven CD'S I have produced are listed below. 80 Years Of Jazz 110 Year Anniversary Of A Jazz Legend "Nick" LaRocca Listen To My Heart Jimmy LaRocca Jazz From New Orleans The Sweet Odor Of Love Dixieland Jazz For Children (done in collaboration with Miss Johnette Downing) (Miss Downing is an award-winning performer of Children's Music) Currently I am the leader of the "Original Dixieland Jazz Band®" and travel worldwide giving Jazz Concerts and appearing at many Jazz Festivals internationally.
