Joe Savage, a favorite addition to many bands around the Twin Cities over the past two decades, finally steps up to the plate with his first solo effort. His CD, entitled "Perennial Sideman," combines many musical elements, from folk to funk, and stretches the boundaries of his primary instrument, the pedal steel guitar. A multi-instrumentalist, Joe features various forms of steel guitar, including pedal steel, resophonic, National and lap steel in this "wonderful collection of hardy and half hardy tunes." He also plays harmonica, claw-hammer banjo, ukulele and more, and is joined by many notable Twin Cities-based musicians, including members of the Honeydogs and Semisonic. This all-instrumental recording, demonstrates a wide range of musical style. The songs include tasteful covers of some Beatles gems as well as Al Green's "Let's Stay Together," but the real focus is on Joe's original compositions, pointing to his unique and eclectic versatility. Savage blends it all together to hit an 'inside the park home run'!
