Product Notes

John Glossenger, a music recording artist, released his latest CD I used to live where it snows in June 2002. The music is highly-melodic pop instrumentals, influenced by such diverse styles as rock, lounge, surf, funk, classical, soul and electronica. Although the CD has a few mellow introspective songs, it's overall mood is fun and optimistic. John occasionally dreams of music fame and fortune, but his main goal is to create meaningful, unique and enjoyable music. In a world filled with empty music based on cold business calculations and marketing hype, John believes that people want warm, authentic music created with passion and intelligence. With his day job as a computer programmer, he has the financial luxury to fully pursue his musical ideals. John is one of the new breed of music artists who take total control of their careers. He singlehandedly created all of the CD's music and artwork, using a computer in his spare bedroom. Although he has enjoyed working with other musicians, he finds that working alone with a computer has it's advantages. For example, he couldn't afford to hire a choir to sing on 'When Angels Call Your Name,' but he could simulate a choir with his computer. According to John, 'Music technology is now so advanced that anyone can record their own music. The only issue is whether the music is good. The technology helps, but a person must still choose every note. I literally had to make thousands of artistic decisions on this CD.' John used to live where it snows, in rural Pennsylvania, quaint seacoast New Hampshire, and urban northern Virginia. He now lives in northern California, between Berkeley and Napa Valley. He began his musical career at age 16, as a drummer in a professional bar band. He earned a Bachelor's degree in music, focusing on music composition, and was a featured soloist in a 60-member concert ensemble. His previous CD, Strange, Savage Beauty, contains sound sculptures created with a drum machine.
