Joseph Williams is an acclaimed, popular solo artist who is also known for having been the lead vocalist for renowned pop/rock group Toto during the mid-to-late 1980s. He remains friends with the band and has appeared on several Toto-related projects over the past two decades. Williams is a soulful, expressive vocalist who has now recorded seven solo albums. Smiles is a new album (recorded and released in 2007). This CD is actually half of a new, two-CD concept album called Smiles and Tears. Smiles consists of 12, classic hit songs performed by Williams, which are happy, joyful songs - songs to smile about. All of these songs are performed with fairly sparse arrangements, featuring Williams' lead and harmony vocals, plus the piano accompaniment of David Harris. But it this production which allows Williams vocals to truly shine - you can hear and feel every nuance in his passionate vocal performances. Smiles contains Williams' renditions of many classic songs, including "Don't Worry Baby" (by Brian Wilson), "Still Crazy After All These Years" (Paul Simon), "A Song For You" (Leon Russell), "Wonderful Tonight" (Eric Clapton) and "Peaceful Easy Feeling" (the Eagles).
