Joy Simone creates music that is a soulful mix of folk, blues, and soul. The stories woven into her music are personal and emotive tales, revealing a journey of self discovery in love, sexuality, and identity. Her largely self-taught guitar skills combined with her lyrical talent have created a highly charged, eclectic blend of songs that reveal a personal evolution of consciousness. Joy is a native New Jerseyan with an international message and a worldly beat. She pays tribute to the influence Eastern music and religion has had on her in works such as "India," and 'Time' as her music continues to evoke a spirit of discovery. Telling in part her story as a multiracial woman in America she pays tribute to musical influences such as Ella Fitzgerald, Bill Withers, and Nina Simone. Stylistically infusing a unique style into her original blend of sultry vocals, emotional lyrics, and free musical composition Joy creates music which eludes time and cultural boundaries. At the age of 22, she has been performing original music live for more than seven years, working with various other musicians on collaborative projects, but also as a solo artist. Playing shows in states on the East coast, and Midwest, Joy has been attending college for four years in pursuit of the combination of study in music and psychology. In Joy Simone's newest works, she interchangeably performs on both guitar and piano, which she has been playing since age 9. She solidifies her roots in jazz and blues while incorporating the inspiration of soul music. Her current contemporary influences include Jamie Cullum and Ben Harper. To fully appreciate Joy Simone's music is to see her live. Her performances are vibrant and varied, as she feels equally at home in clubs, cafes, and theatres. Joy takes much of her energy from her audience and is known for spontaneous improv, often drawing upon members of the crowd and the venue of the show for inspiration. Her songs are rarely performed exactly the same way twice so even long-time fans will find new twists, lyrics, and melodies inserted into their favorite songs. Keeping them on the edge of their seats and singing along.
