Product Notes

IMMACULATE PERCEPTION is a ground breaking album of music and poetry. Inspired by the energy of Vitaly Kalpidi\'s poetry the English composer Mark Leventhall has written a contemporary and diverse blend of orchestral and electronic music that is not just a background for the poems but an active force. The Russian poetry is beautifully recited by Alicia and the poet himself. Kalpidi\'s work has won top literary awards including the Apollon Grigoriev prize and the Best Book of the Decade. The album was featured at the 2001 International Poetry Festival in Moscow and in January 2002 at the Academgorodok (Academic\'s Town) of the Academy of Science in Novosibirsk. It has been presented in theatres, clubs, universities and art galleries throughout Russia. The English premiere was held at the Pushkin Club in London and to quote Richard McKane \'it was the outstanding event of my chairmanship.\' Presentations include a documentary about the making of the album by the London film company Visual Voodoo and a screen show of spectacular graphics by the St Petersburg artist Vyacheslav Ostapenko. POETS WORDS ABOUT THE ALBUM Almost no one was waiting for it's appearance in the world, this explains the homelessness of the album, so necessary for the freedom of movement. This very movement, the desire to move - is a way, and a wish to get somewhere - is just a road. The way differs from the road like the cosmos from an iron. The way doesn\'t lead anywhere, it's existence defies practicality. If the flight of an arrow has an aim, the aim of the way is the flight itself. It has not been eaten by the metastasis of questions: what for? where to? what\'s the sense? And the very sacramental question \'what is the sense of life?\' is fussy and worthless. Whilst life exists nothing else does, even God. He appears when life starts to vanish, and the more transparent we become the clearer the features of the Creator imerge in the very same place where we start to vanish. In order to get rid of the fear of death it\'s worthwhile to inject yourself with a medicinal dose of death. In order not to die totally before your term one needs to die a little bit every day. Creative work is this very same injection. I\'d like to say that in the album IMMACULATE PERCEPTION all of us a little bit but truly died - and did it with the only aim - to live further. By the way I\'ve never even met Mark Leventhall. So our creative aquaintance is ecologically pure. In any case there shouldn\'t be any pesticides in the album. So, bonne appetit! ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF THE FLY-LIKE DANCE OF STARS... The fly-like dance of stars that echoes every meaning. The mindless arid sky is rustling with it's grass. And silver of the soul in me forever beaming through skin of brass. The shallow of the times, the Universe is wordless and clinging to a man - not measurable by three but by the primal run alongside death that\'s endless despair for you and me. We\'re running in the mist of our breath shaped oval above the planet\'s pulp stampeding in a herd and fall in it - our lives so far from being over that simply - oh, my Word. The snow covers us, the moisture braces, the strangers\' memory still drags us in a flash, we\'re burning in the flame of freedom with no traces and crawling in the ash. Life catches up with us when death is the reflection, with our glance and hand we\'re reaching through the door and see ourselves with such immaculate perception and melt and sing in awe. The grass will tumble down and birds will disappear, and babies screaming loud, and tumbles down the grass, and silver of the soul is glowing bright and clear through tightened grip of brass.
