As the cover photograph suggests, my Scenery CD includes songs I wrote while traveling and studying in Norway. It goes further than just one person's experiences in Europe, though. I wrote many of the songs about people I've gotten to know here in Florida. I care about the young men and women I deal with every day. Sometimes they share with me the struggles they're going through. We laugh together a lot too. I never know when an idea will develop into a song, named for one person, but often combining inspiration from more than one source. Scenery is what we see while traveling on the journeys of life. It often passes by too quickly, like sights out the window of a fast moving train. We may wish we could focus on attractive sights, but they quickly disappear from view, making way for new ones. Sometimes the train is crowded and we can't find a seat. The whole experience of traveling is a risk, though. We are willing to take the risk of leaving our comfort zones and stepping out into new places because we have an adventurous spirit that wants to explore new territories. There's a lot more to this world than just what we get glimpses of on a tv set or computer screen. The whole visual language of Scenery implies things that we see. I like to translate those sights into sounds, using a song's text to convey my impressions about people and places and how they affect me.
