SHINE is a wonderful, tuneful new CD album of classic jazz tunes, played sweet and hot in authentic 1920s-'30s style, by an all-star quintet of Toronto jazz performers. Released in May of 2007, SHINE features 13 swinging cuts by veteran musicians Jordan Klapman (piano/arrangements, 100 Years of Waller), Mick Lewis (clarinet, Climax Jazz Band), Brian Towers (trombone, Hot Five Jazzmakers), Tony Quarrington (guitar, JUNO-award-winner with too many credits to list) and Ken Whiteley (washboard, legendary multiple JUNO-award winning producer/performer.) SHINE also features swinging dance tunes, ballads, and standards from New Orleans, Tin Pan Alley, and early Broadway musicals and great tunes written by Sidney Bechet, Fats Waller, Gershwin, Rogers and Hart, Eubie Blake, and several other jazz giants. Plus a couple of delightfully authentic originals that also sound exactly like they were also written 'way back when'. Great driving stride piano and vintage Gibson rhythmic guitar propel some terrific jazz solos. If you like the sound of Paris Washboard, you will love Klapman and Lewis's SHINE. Give us a listen, enjoy, and help us keep this great jazz alive!
