Product Notes

The Knew is comprised of four members that look closely related and may very well be in some branch of the tree. They are a foursome that has energy on the brain and translates that through live shows and their two most recent EPs. The Knew recorded their 2007 EP, Holladay, at Denver\'s Uneven Studio operated by Hot IQs bassist Bryan Fuechtinger. The album showcases their best work to date, ranging from chain-gang blues to uptempo country-punk, and was released in July 2007. Coupled with favorable critic reviews, they used the momentum to keep moving forward, playing and writing new songs that hope to encompass their favorite aspects of the music they love. The Knew has again teamed up with Bryan Feuchtinger to put together a new EP full of tasty rock basics as well as testing out some new approaches to blues and roots music. The EP should be finished up in July and is to be consummated with a fashionably tasteless blowout with some other choice bands/friends on the bill. In addition to plans to release their newest EP in July, The Knew are also working on booking West Coast and Midwest tours, hoping for an exciting and ambitious rest of 2008. The Knew are: Jacob Hansen- Guitar/vocals Tyler Breuer- Guitar Tim Rynders- Bass Patrick Bowden- Drums Press \'No surprise that Boom Bust recalls last year\'s Holladay...they share an appreciation for tight, punchy songcraft...The opener, \'By Yourself,\' is simultaneously danceable and jittery, with guitarist/vocalist Jacob Hansen and his crew declaring, \'Ooh, it\'s all about always being modern,\' in a tone that bridges the gap between irony and sincerity. That\'s followed by the faux-rootsiness of \'Renaissance Man,\' the atmospheric \'Coldblack\' and three other reliably enjoyable tracks. It\'s another solid platter from a band that prizes quality and consistency over the shock of the Knew. Westword Album Review- 7.17.08 by Michael Roberts \'Playing with the right mix of garage and classic rock...their music leapt off the stage and into their fans' chests. It wasn't long before everyone was overtaken with the passion - the need to move and dance and yelp along. Talk about a welcome evolution...now the Knew...are one of the most exciting bands in the Mile High City.\' Denver Post_Reverb- 6.16.08 by Ricardo Baca \'...it's easy to understand the appeal of the Knew. Before they get on stage, it's hard to pick them out from the crowd - besides the fact that they must be the tallest band in Denver. They're that unassuming. These four musicians don't have skinny jeans and rockstar attitudes. They're just like you and me, and that's pretty refreshing to see. As for the music -- the real reason bands have fans -- it's plain and simple fun. It's hard to be in a room with the Knew playing and not feel a sort of blissful rush of feelings that make your body start moving in some way, even if it's just a secret toe-tap at the start of each of their songs.\' Denver Post_Reverb- 4.21.08 by Tiffany Childs \'The members of the Knew must know they have something special. The guys take the stage with a quiet confidence, a few smiles between them seem, as if to say, "These people don\'t know what they\'re in for." Either that or they\'re just as excited to play each show as I\'m now going to be at the thought of seeing them perform again from here on out. From start to finish, the band put on a nearly perfect set, low on improvisation but high on an infectious energy. The group\'s rootsy, bluesy, punk-infused sound compiles rock history in five-minute increments, while managing to push the sound in new directions. What\'s more, Jacob Hansen is the consummate frontman, belting out pitch-perfect howls while nimbly providing the audience with precise and astonishing leads that are creative without lapsing into self-indulgent wankery. Hansen\'s presence is augmented by guitarist Tyler Breuer\'s tight rhythm playing, Patrick Bowden\'s astounding drumming, vocals, and harmonica, and bassist Tim Rynder\'s driving, low-end. On stage, the Knew brings it like few bands I have ever seen. Those who haven\'t seen the band yet are missing out.\' Westword \'Over the Weekend\'- 1.12.08 by Sean Cronin.
